Small Agency Conference


The Small Agency Conference was designed to offer quality continuing education, networking opportunities and a regionally recognized trade show.

The conference will benefit all agency staff, including owners, principals, agency managers, producers and CSRs. The Small Agency Conference provides education sessions focused on coverage-based topics, ethics, E&O, etc., which could provide you with up to 10 CE credits.

You'll find networking opportunities, including the Crawfish Feast, Hospitality Crawl, etc. Finally, the main event is a regionally-recognized trade show with over 100 exhibitors and nearly 300 agents in attendance.

J. Sheldon Snodgrass, MBA, a US Army Airborne veteran and nationally ranked triathlete, has spent thousands of hours coaching soldiers, skiers, white water rafting guests, high school athletes, masters level ultimate teams, and insurance industry professionals around the world. Sheldon earned an MBA from UMass Isenberg School of Management and became an entrepreneurial business planning Instructor through the NxLevel Educational Foundation.  He is also a Certified Guerrilla Marketing Coach whose book chapter on salesmanship helped propel "Guerrilla Marketing on the Front Lines" to an Amazon.com best-seller.

In 2002, Sheldon launched SteadySales.com to help service people sell. He's coached hundreds of insurance agencies and thousands of CSRs in collaboration with dozens of national and regional carriers, state associations and industry partners. Sheldon delivers energetic, emotive and entertaining content that translates our best intentions into the spark of action. His energetic coaching flows from two guiding principles: lovingly meeting people where they are and igniting their desire to improve.

Ken Hauck has 50 years of insurance industry experience in many facets of the industry. He currently manages Hauck & Associates, an insurance continuing education provider and sales training provider. He has also developed Selling is SIMPLE and shares his lifetime of sales and sales training experience in live workshops or virtual classroom settings. 

Having recently retired as the executive vice president of the Association of Wyoming Insurance Agents, Ken has become an investor and promoter for Prove It, an InsurTech startup focused on virtual home inventory services.


 

Angie Heavener, CIC, CPIA

Angie Heavener began her insurance career in 1971 by joining her family’s agency. She held numerous positions in the agency consisting of CSR, producer and eventually agency owner. In 1993, she sold her agency to join the staff of the Professional Independent Insurance Agents of Illinois. She began as assistant vice president of marketing/instructor and was shortly promoted to vice-president of education. She is currently the principal of Insurance Training Plus, Inc., a professional training and consulting firm focused on education and agency operations, that she began in 2002.

Charlie Matejowsky is vice president of financial services for Van Dyke, Rankin & Co. Inc. He joined the firm as a personal and commercial lines producer. He works almost exclusively on the life anfinancial services side of the business. As a “retirement repairman” he serves both individual and group clients.

Burton Kelso
Burton Kelso is the Chief Tech Expert at Integral, an IT support and computer services company, TEDx, and national speaker, as well as a media tech expert who regularly appears on national and international TV and radio shows offering viewers easy tips on computers, technology, internet lifestyle and gadgets.  As computers and their related gadgets become more and more part of our everyday lives, he's here to help you get the most out of your devices. His vision is to remove the frustrations and complexity of computers and technology and open people up to a world of new ideas, experiences and opportunities. He loves technology, he's read all of the manuals, and he's serious about making technology fun, safe and easy to use for everyone!

Nicole Broch, CIC, CISR, PLCS
Nicole Broch spent over a decade as an independent insurance agent and manager of a successful partnership between a community financial institution and a local independent agency in Springfield, Illinois.  She attended The Hartford School of Insurance and achieved her National Underwriter awarded Personal Lines Coverage Specialist (PLCS) designation in 2005.  She went on to receive the National Alliance CISR designation in 2007 and CIC designation in 2009.

Exhibit Booth registration will open for members in early February 2024.

This conference offers companies, vendors and wholesalers three hours of exclusive time in front of Missouri agents in the exhibit hall. There are around 100 exhibitors, including both p-c and l-h insurance companies, wholesalers, technology vendors, etc. 

The booth hours are from 4:30-7:30 PM on Thursday. Company prize drawings begin at 7 PM. Each individual working the booth must be registered; see registration tab for pricing. On average, this conference draws around 300 agents, 70 wholesalers and 230 company reps. These agents come from all-size agencies in both rural and urban areas around Missouri.
